Modify Marital Status

This job aid shows benefits officers how to modify an employee’s marital status.

Background

  • An employee’s marital status changes through a life event.
  • The change affects their benefits enrollment and their dependent status.
  • You change their recorded marital status in CHRS.

When to use this procedure:

  • New employee Marriage/Registered Domestic Partnership
  • New employee Divorce/Termination of Domestic Partnership
  • Before you finalize the BAS event
  • Before you generate benefits enrollment forms

Modify an employee’s marital status

Step 1: Navigate to Modify a Person.

  • Menu > Workforce Administration > Personal Information > Modify a Person

Step 2: Enter search criteria and then click Search.

  • If the search returns only one result, the Modify a Person page opens. Otherwise, select the employee to open the page.

Step 3: In the Biographical History section click the Plus button to add an effective dated row.

Step 4: On the new row, update the following fields:

  1. Effective Date
  2. Marital status
  3. As of
  • As of date: Use the date of the event (marriage, divorce, domestic partnership).

Step 5: Click Save.

  • The spouse or domestic partner is added to the employee’s personal information.
