General Information:
  • Used to reassign an employee at their request to avoid layoff.

  • This Action is used to move an employee from one appointment, pay calendar or department to another, or when management reassigns an employee within a classification or sub-range based on the requirements of the position and an assessment of the employee's qualifications and skills. The reassignment may or may not affect a salary change.

  • For represented employees, review "Reassignment" language in applicable MOU.

  • Authorized salary increases must be in conformance with applicable CSU policies or MOU.

  • When a non-temporary employee voluntarily applies for and is awarded a temporary position, process the following:

 -Process the appropriate Termination action with an Action Effective Date the same as the Transfer action.

 -Process a Rehire/REH to place employee into the temporary position. Set Employee Class to Temporary and increase Effective Sequence by 1.

  • A Transfer action (reassignment) should NOT be used for:

 -promotion or job reclassification (e.g., implementation of a new classification series),

 -to reassign a temporary employee to a new position or assignment if expiration date of appointment has expired,

 -moving to a permanent appointment,

 -time base changes only,

 -salary change only.

  • Refer to Time and Labor documentation for mid pay period adjustments.
