Updated on

Field Characteristic Description
Code: I
Long Descr: Interim Appointment
Short Descr: Interim
Definition: An Interim appointment is used when the position is vacant, and the employee is serving until the position is filled.  Although generally used for Dept Chair and MPPs it can apply to all employees, and should not be used for those in an Acting role.

Interim vs Acting:
Interim - the person is no longer active or in that position. The position is not occupied.
Acting - the position is occupied, and the occupant is on leave etc., and a substitute is backfilling until the person returns.  The person is no longer active or in that position.
General Information: This is a new value for CHRS.
As campuses go live in CHRS, they are expected to use this consistently even if a process change is needed.
Business Rules:
  • In conjunction with Action Reason, used to determine the proper PIMS code.
  • Can be used on all employees.
  • Used when the position is vacant.
  • End date required.
  • Should not be used for those in an Acting role (see Acting Appointment for details).
Examples: Used when a position is vacant, employee is serving until it is filled.
A position goes vacant due to a retirement, and an individual temporarily moves into that position (and position number) until it is permanently filled.
