Long Descr: Emergency Hire
Short Descr: Emer Hire
Definition: Emergency appointment up to 120/180 days (depending on CBA) with the exception E99, C99, M80 which are not governed by a CBA.
General Information: As campuses go live in CHRS, they are expected to use this consistently even if a process change is needed.
Business Rules:
  • Must be filled immediately and have an end date.
  • Based on Union Code (more details can be found in the appropriate CBA):
  • Unit 1 - 180 days emergency hire
  • Units 2,5,6,7,9 (CSUEU) - 180 Days max
  • Unit 3 (Faculty) - does not apply
  • Unit 4 - 120 Days max
  • Unit 8 (Maritime specific) - no provision in CBA
  • Unit 10 (Maritime specific) - 30 days
  • Unit 11 (UAW) - does not apply
  • Unit 13 (CSULA specific) not specified
  • Unit 14 - 90 days
  • E99, C99, M80 - campus discretion
Examples:
  • Emergency hire - not through recruitment (fast tracked) - immediate need for the position.
  • A position is vacated and rather than the department reassigning a current employee to backfill the vacated position, they decide to hire a short term employee.
