Field CharacteristicDescription
Action:HIR
Reason:CON
Descr:Concurrent Job
Descrshort:Concur Job
General Information:
  • Appointment of an employee that is already on the database with an active or on leave position.  There are 4 types of appointments as follows:

1. The employment is regular and continuous. Includes permanent, probationary and tenure track appointees, in addition to ’At Will’ appointments such as management (MPP) and Executive (M98) appointees serving at the pleasure  of the campus President, the Chancellor or the Trustees. Note: The term ’permanent appointee’ confers no particular status to the employee.

2. A position that is temporary in nature. If position is temporary, the length of the appointment period is limited by an expiration date or other condition of employment.  Temporary appointments include Lecturer, Coach, Graduate Assistant, Resident Assistant, Summer Quarter Assignment, Sabbatical Leave replacement, hourly employees (intermittent time base), Trade Rate employees and other nonacademic and administrative employees.

3. For Rehired Annuitants, the employee class must be 'Rehired Annuitant' and Legal Reference is required.

4. The appointment of an employee to a ’special pay category’. Compensation for the assignment may be made at intervals during the assignment duration provided that compensation is not paid in advance of work performed, or on a one-time basis in full, upon completion of the assignment. May only be used for specific class codes as authorized by the Chancellor's Office.

  • Appointment of an annuitant retired from California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or State Teachers' Retirement System (only if prior STRS is with CSU).

  • HIR/CON is limited in use to instances where an employee is active or on leave in a position and is receiving a concurrent or additional (over 1.0 FTE) position.  Refer to the  Job Stacking position paper for more information.

  • The 4 types of appointments must be distinguished by Empl_Class as follows:

 -Regular and continuous: G-Regular
 -Temporary: 3 - Temp 3 Year, B- Intermittent, H-Temporary
-Special or Immediate Pay: T-Immediate Pay
 -Rehired Annuitant: E-Rehired Annuitant
