Overview
This job aid shows approvers how to complete a mid-process revision.
Background
- Mid-Process Revision is when an appointment is revised in the middle of the approval process.
- After the “Send Appt Notification” step, appointment changes on the My Approvals page will not be on the employee’s appointment notification unless it has been pushed back to a step prior to the notification sending.
Before you start
Have the appointment that you want revised open on CSU TAE My TAE Approvals page. See Approve TAE Appointments.
Pushback the appointment
Step 1: Carefully review the appointment to ensure that the mid-process revision is needed. Open each of the tabs to display the fields:
- Appt Data - displays appointment dates, pay, Timebase.
- Addl Data - displays action/reasons, retirement codes.

Step 2: Open the Notification tab.

Step 3: Take note of whether the appointment notification has been sent.

Step 4: Open the Approval tab.

Step 5: Click the Pushback lookup to select a prior step in the workflow.

Pushback guidelines:
- Push back to a step before the appointment notification was sent out in order to ensure that updates are included in the revised notification.
- If you select Step 0, an email will be sent directly to the originator, the other steps do not receive an email.
Step 6: Select the step in which the revision is required.

Step 7: Enter the reason for the pushback in the Reason field.

Step 8: Enter the reason for the pushback in the Comments field.
- The comments field is visible to the approvers, so use this field to relay information.

Step 9: Click Save & Submit.

- The system reverts the workflow to the specified prior step.
- The system adds a check to the Revision check box so the approver knows that this is a revised appointment.
- The check mark is uneditable on the CSU TAE My Approval Page, if the transaction is pushed back to the Originator (step 0).

If you receive a pushback, make the updates and then approve to move the appointment forward. If you do not approve the step after the changes, the transaction will not be processed.
