Overview

This workflow helps employees with benefit primary jobs at campuses using full self-service eBenefits to predict their benefit coverage effective dates.

To use this workflow, answer the questions about your event and follow the on-screen prompts.

This tool estimates your benefit start date based on your submitted life event. If your situation is unusual or you’re unsure which event you submitted, contact Benefits.

Definitions

  • Event date: The date of the event itself. For example, if you are reporting a birth, then the birth date is the event date. For new hires, the hire date is the event date.
  • Submission date: This is the date that you submitted the request for a benefits change to CHRS. For example, if your divorce was on 3/23, but you submitted on 4/1, then 4/1 is the submission date.

Submission rules

When you submit your benefit elections through eBenefits, CHRS determines the benefit coverage start dates based on a rules matrix that depends on:

  • The type of event (examples: hire, birth, change of coverage)
  • Event date
  • Submission date: (before or after the 3rd of that month or a different month)
  • The type of benefit (medical, dental, HCRA)
